Created together.

We begin with references and the intent of the cinematography. An initial look sets the direction; reviews keep the team close to the image.

LOOK DEVELOPMENT / ON SET

Color can begin
on set.

When the project calls for it, I also join shoots to develop look previews and LUTs with the cinematographer. With DaVinci Resolve, a grading panel, iPad and monitoring, we explore skin tones, contrast and palette as the images take shape.

This is an optional stage, tailored to the client and production. Preparation, time on set and deliverables are agreed in the proposal.

Technology in the process.
Sensitivity in the vision.

I’m Douglas Guedes, a colorist based in São Paulo. Since 2002, I have worked with color as part of storytelling — in film, television, commercials, documentaries and music.

I am also a professionally registered film editor in Brazil (DRT). My approach to color considers rhythm, continuity and the relationship between shots — each image within the work as a whole.

Depending on the client and project, this collaboration can also begin on set, with color previews and LUTs during filming.

My time at TV Cultura began with color correction for its archive and expanded into grading the broadcaster's productions. It was also there that I worked on the Direções project, exploring visual language with filmmakers and theatre directors.

Over the years, I have worked with Assimilate SCRATCH, Apple Color in the Final Cut ecosystem, and DaVinci Resolve from its early days. Technology evolves; the commitment to the image's intent remains.

My work spans shows and DVDs by Daniel, Zizi Possi, Roupa Nova and Zeca Baleiro; programmes such as Canta Comigo and The Masked Singer Brasil; and cinema, documentaries and productions for production companies, Sesc and television advertising.

I also grade shows by Deive Leonardo and Whindersson Nunes available on Netflix, with experience in HDR. I am a Dolby Vision certified colorist.

AT TV CULTURA / DIREÇÕES

Theatre and cinema.
New directions in television.

A partnership between TV Cultura and SescTV, Direções opened a space to explore the language of television drama. Cinema, theatre and Brazilian stories came together in works with distinct ways of telling a story.

During my time at TV Cultura, I worked on color correction for productions in the project. It was a journey of visual exploration with directors such as Eliane Caffé and Beto Brant — from reading the footage to shaping the atmosphere of each story.

In O Louco dos Viadutos, Eliane Caffé brings fiction together with people from the Garrido-Boxe project beneath a São Paulo overpass. The four-part miniseries from 2009 is part of this meeting of television and cinema.
